Certifications are a reliable way to hold businesses accountable to their standards of practice. For example: OEKO-TEX Standard 100 is a certification that tests textiles to ensure the fabric has no trace of toxic/harmful chemicals.

This is a great certification especially for clothing that makes contact with skin. Chemicals on textiles that are harmful to us can get absorbed into our skin, which is why it's important to ensure what we are wearing is kind to our skin and our long-term health.

This is one of many certifications that can be recognised. Certification is a step for environmentally-friendly textiles, but it is important to remember, certification alone doesn't tell the full story. 

Whilst we are assured of chemical-free textiles, it doesn't write the story for the production of that textile. It leaves us with questioning around the farming, production practices in place and the working conditions for the hands it passed through. This is just a few of the factors we should consider then thinking about the life journey of a raw textile. This is why Sew Eco Stamp 3 is classed as eco-friendly fabrics, but not sustainable.

Think of this as good fabric with verified eco credentials.

This large misty gingham check cotton is from Fableism, a family-run brand known for their thoughtfully designed, yarn-dyed cottons and nature-led colour palettes. The check has a lovely depth to it, with rich green tones that feel earthy and timeless rather than overly bold.

Woven from 100% cotton, this fabric is breathable, easy to sew and is perfect for everyday makes - from relaxed dresses, cute gingham vests or a patchwork tote bag.

We have given Fableism fabrics a Eco Stamp 3. Fableism use only natural fibred fabrics for their fabric collections and it is clear how much quality and care goes into every bit of woven fabric.

Whilst they are not certified (certification is very expensive for a small business) the team at Fableism are clear that their fabrics are not treated with any harmful chemicals or dyes. 

They also do not contain any PFAS, flame retardants, antimicrobials, phthalates or formaldehyde. Free from heavy metals and the dyes are AZO free. The only process after manufacturing they go through is they are washed with water and fabric softener.

Fableism work closely with a small community of weavers in India to uphold the best standards for the workers, and fabrics.

Returns - Cut to order and non-returnable. Cutting breaks the bolt's continuous length (changing its resale value) and once fabric leaves us, we can't guarantee it's free from odours, smoke, or contamination.

Colour Display - Although we do our best to make sure the colours displayed in our pictures are accurate, note that actual colours may vary due to differences in monitors and devices you may use.

Best Matching Thread - Take it literally, our best matching thread. Whether it be a exact match or a contrasting colour, we will do our best to match to your fabric.

Fabric Shrinkage - Due to our fabrics being natural fibred, we recommend allowing 3-5% to allow for shrinkage.
