How to use our Digital Sewing and Make Nine Downloadable Planner

So you've downloaded our Free Digital Sewing and Make Nine Planner.

You've either got a printer at home and are mood boarding your plans on paper, or you're wondering how can I do this digitally in Canva?

The wonders of Canva!

First things you need to know if you're not familiar with Canva...

It does require a sign in/set up of an account to access the template.

If you're new to Canva there is a free plan available or you can sign up to Canva Pro to unlock it's full potential (if you're a regular digital planner and love to get creative, it's worth it for sure!)

I would recommend experimenting with the 'Elements' Tab (on the left hand side) to find all graphics/shapes you can get to enhance your mood boarding.

You can use the 'Text' Tab to start writing within the design area, find some fancy fonts for your planner.

Use the Snipping Tool on your computer to screen grab images/graphics from websites for sewing pattern silhouette's and pattern inspiration that will liven up your mood board section. It's easy as copy and paste.

Let's 'Make a Copy' of the Sewing Planner Template...

First open the Template from link in the PDF file you've downloaded. (Image 1)

Tips for Using Your Sewing and Make Nine Planner

Now that you've made a copy of the planner template, here are some tips to help you get the most out of it:

  1. Customise Your Planner
Personalise the colours, fonts, and layout to match your style. Canva allows you to change background colours, add shapes, and even upload your own images to make your planner truly unique. Hit the 'Unlock' feature to make changes.

  2. Organise Your Sewing Projects
Use different pages for each project you're planning. Add images of fabric swatches, pattern illustrations, or even sketches of your designs to visualise your creations. Instead of deleting each project every time, simply duplicate the empty page before you begin planning. You can make a duplicate by hitting the copy button, like below.

  3. Plan Your Make Nine Goals
If you're using the Make Nine section, upload images of the nine projects you want to complete this year. Use your Snipping Tool on your computer, to snip images directly from webpages and copy straight into Canva.

  4. Collaborate or Share
Want to share your plans with friends or a sewing group? Canva allows you to download your planner as a PDF or image to share online. If you're part of a sewing community, consider sharing your Make Nine progress to inspire others!

  5. Revisit and Update
One of the great things about using Canva for digital planning is that it's easy to revisit and update your planner as your projects evolve. You can duplicate pages, add new ideas, or tweak your goals throughout the year.
